The ‘ periodic nulls ’ of radio pulsar J 1819 + 1305 3

چکیده
We present a single-pulse study of the four-component pulsar J1819+1305, whose “null” pulses bunch at periodic intervals of around 57 times the rotation period. The emission bursts between the null bunches exhibit characteristic modulations at two shorter periodicities of approximately 6.2 and 3 times the rotation period, the former found largely in the two outer components, and the latter only in the first component. Many bursts commence with bright emission in second component, exhibit positive six-period drift across the full profile width, and end with 3-period modulation in the leading component. The 57-period cycle can be modelled geometrically as a sparsely filled subbeam carousel with nulls appearing whenever our line of sight intersects a circulating empty region. This interpretation is compatible with other recent evidence for periodic, carousel-related nulling and appears to support the physics of a polargap emission model for “drifting” subpulses, but the subtle structure of the emission bursts defies an easy explanation.

Interaction between nulls and emission in the pulsar B0834+06
We present a detailed study of the single pulses of the bright radio pulsar B0834+06, and offer evidence that the dominant periodic modulation in this pulsar’s emission governs the occurrence of nulls. The nulls of B0834+06 constitute approximately 9 per cent of the total pulses and we demonstrate that they do not occur at random in the pulse sequence. On the contrary, they are found to occur p...
متن کاملThe Arecibo 430-MHz Intermediate Galactic Latitude Survey: Discovery of Nine Radio Pulsars
We have used the Arecibo Radio Telescope to search for millisecond pulsars in two intermediate Galactic latitude regions (7 < |b| < 20) accessible to this telescope. For these latitudes the useful millisecond pulsar search volume achieved by Arecibo’s 430-MHz beam is predicted to be maximal. Searching a total of 130 square degrees, we have discovered nine new pulsars and detected four previousl...
متن کاملDeep Analyses of Nulling in Arecibo Pulsars Reveal Further Periodic Behavior
Sensitive Arecibo observations provide an unprecedented ability to detect nulls for an accurate pulse-modulation quelling (PMQ) analysis. We demonstrate that a number of conal pulsars show “periodic nulling” similar to the phenomenon found earlier in pulsar B1133+16.

Aims. In this paper we revisit the well-known phenomenon of pulse nulling using high-quality single-pulse data of PSR B1133+16 from simultaneous multifrequency observations. Methods. Observations were made at 325, 610, 1400 and 4850 MHz as part of a joint program between the European Pulsar Network (EPN) and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT). The pulse energy time series are analysed t...
متن کاملPeriodic nulls in the pulsar B1133+16
Numerous studies of the brightest Cambridge pulsar, B1133+16, have revealed little order in its individual pulses, apart from a weak 30-odd-rotation-period fluctuation feature and that some 15 per cent of the star’s pulsars are ‘nulls’. New Arecibo observations confirm this fluctuation feature and that it modulates all the emission, not simply the ‘saddle’ region. By replacing each pulse with a...
